XPS insulation board has dense surface layer and closed-cell structure inner layer. Its thermal conductivity is much lower than EPS, so it has better thermal insulation performance than EPS. For the same exterior walls, its thickness can be less than other types of insulation materials.

XPS insulation board has an excellent R-value, which is a measure of the insulation's ability to resist heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more effective the insulation is at preventing heat transfer. XPS insulation board typically has an R-value of 4.5 to 5 per inch, which is higher than many other types of insulation materials.
